The International Economy and Trade Department was established in 1983 on the basis of the mergence of the former International Trade Department and the former Intemational Economy Department. Since then, it has set up one after another the specialties of trade economy, international trade, world economy and international economy & trade for university-level students and has also set up the specialties of international economy & cooperation, international business for college-level students. After the regulation of the state-catalogue of the specialties, our department's leading specialties become international economy & trade and logistics management. Now our department has two Master's degree programs with the specialties of industrial economy and world economy and one provincial prominent branch of learning. Our department is the National Economy and Trade Committee approved designated training center for the state-run large-and-middle-sized enterprises and now enlists the university-level students majoring in international economy & trade and international logistics, and the college-level studehts majoring in international business.
Our department mainly offers in the university-level stage more than 40 courses, including the courses of micro-economics, macro-economics, international economics, world economy introduction, international trade, international finance, international trade practice, international marketing, international investment, international economy cooperation, western financial analysis, international service trade, developing-economics, currency & banking, e-business introduction, finance, world market prices, international business negotiation, international transportation & insurance and international business law. According to HUFE's teaching management system, our department operates on the credit system. After finishing the credit, the graduation is granted.
Our department consists of 6 teaching & researching sections (TRS), 1 researching institute (RI) and 1 researching center (RC), namely, the World Economy TRS, the International Economy & Cooperation TRS, the International Trade TRS, the Industrial Economy TRS, the Business management TRS, the Quantitative-economics TRS, the Commercial Business RI and the WTO RC.
Our department has a well-balanced and vigorous faculty and a group of political & administrative cadres. Of the faculty members, 1 is doctorate adviser, 5 are master advisers, 20 are professors and associate professors, and 12 are lecturers. Of the young teachers, 2 have the doctor degrees, 6 are in-service studying for the doctor degrees, 13 have the master degrees, and 6 are in-service studying for the master degrees. To meet the needs of the development of teaching, our department has invited 16 famous scholars at home and abroad and business executives as part-time professors to have the academic exchanges frequently.
The main purpose of the specialty of international economy & trade is to foster the high-level talented people with professional skills who are demanded to possess the ability to combine theory and practice, to use foreign languages, computers and e-business skillfully, to go in for the job of international economy, international trade, international finance and international business ably. This specialty mainly offers the courses of micro-economics, macro-economics, international economics, world economy introduction, international trade theory and practice, international finance, international investment, international settling accounts, international technology and service trade, international insurance, international marketing, international business negotiation, multinational operation and management, intemational economic law introduction and so on. The purpose of this specialty is to raise the students' attainment and thinking ability by offering the courses of basic specialties, and to' enhances the students' ability of application and innovation by improving the teaching substances and methods of the practical courses and enhancing the links of practical teaching, and to highlight the skills of using foreign languages, computers and e-business as features of this specialty.
Our department has a complete range of levels of running a school with different kinds of high-educational forms, including college-level programs, college-up-to-university-level programs, adult education programs, self-exam-and-aid-studying programs, business training programs and WTO special subject consulting training programs. On the basis of university-level programs, which are kept high quality for a long run, we also mn two master degree programs with the specialties of world economy and industrial economy, of which the latter is the provincial prominent branch of learning. Under the master degree program of industrial economy, we set up four directions, which are industrial structure & macro adjustment and control policies, industrial investment, the theory of market circulation & industrial market analysis and intemational theory & practice. Under the master degree program of world economy, we set up three directions, which are the theory of international economy, the economy of different nations, the theory of intemational trade.
Our department pays great attention to the international academic exchanges. Having established relations of different kinds with the academic institutions in the United States, Canada, Japan, EU, Australia, Korea, we often carry out or attend the international academic exchanges, frequently send our teachers abroad for advanced studies or invite foreign scholars to visit our department, to lecture here and to have a discussion on academic topics mutually. In the meantime we urge the outstanding students of our department to go abroad for advanced studies and pave the way for them.
After graduation the students of our department will take up a post in the government department such as the provincial government departments, district foreign-economy and foreign-trade branches, or they will take up a post in the financial sector such as the international business office of a bank, foreign ventures, foreign banks and policy-researching department. Facing the reformation of the old assignment system in the universitys of higher learning and the two-way choice in finding a job nowadays, the students of our department have appeared great competitiveness in face-to-face tests or examinations held by firms or by govemments. Every year, our department keeps the NO.1 in the number of the students passing the entrance examination of the master degree programs. Some outstanding students go to the foreign countries such as the United State, England, Canada and Japan for further studies.
