Established in 1983, Henan University of Finance and Economics (HUFE) is located in the Central Plains of China and close to the Yellow River. Incorporating the essence of traditional Chinese culture while keeping pace with the changing times, HUFE has become a cradle of talent and a well-known modern university.

Abundant qualified teachers: HUFE has gathered outstanding teachers and talented people. The university has about 1,000 faculty and staff members, of whom 430 are faculty members, 272 are professors and associate professors, and about 190 have doctor or master degree. HUFE also has a number of teachers who have made special contributions to the country, are granted special funding by the government, are outstanding provincial experts, or have been recognized by Henan Province as leaders in the fields of education and technology going into the new century. In addition, HUFE has invited about a hundred famous scholars, including Yu Guang-yuan, Liu Guo-guang, Wei Xing-hua, Li Yi-ning and Li Jing-wen as its part-time or honorary professors.
　　
　Practical specialties: HUFE gives a prominent place both to its feature programs and to the integration of its majors. Its primary programs are economics and management majors, but it also offers multiple other courses of study: namely, liberal arts, law, engineering and art. HUFE consists of 13 departments, 4 teaching and researching sections (or centers), an adult education college, a professional business college and an international cultural and educational exchange center. HUFE has 14 master’s degree programs and 31 university-level and college–level specialties. At present, it has a total number of about 15,000 full-time students on campus.

　High teaching standards: HUFE regards producing highly qualified graduates as being of prime importance. Graduates of the university are practically trained and have with a solid foundation, a wide range of knowledge, strong abilities and high qualifications. In 1998, the university smoothly passed the national Up-to-Standard University-Level Education Evaluation, which raised it to a new level. The percentages of HUFE students who have passed the CET-4 and CET-6 have been in the front row among Henan provincial institutions of higher learning continuously for 6 years. Dozens of its teaching achievements have won national and provincial rewards. The national Education Ministry and other governmental departments have awarded HUFE many honorary titles, including the Advanced Unit of Physical Education Teaching and the Advanced Unit of University Students’ Social Practice.

　Prolific scientific achievements: HUFE strengthens its scientific research work and tries to produce elaborate scientific works, which leads to a gradual increase of its scientific research level. Since the year 2000, its faculty members have undertaken many scientific research projects. Ten of these are at the state level, 72 are at the provincial or ministerial level, and 144 are at the regional or governmental department level in the province. In addition, many scientific research achievements have been awarded prizes by authoritative institutions.

　 Among them, 64 are at or above the provincial or ministerial level and 126 are at the regional or governmental department level in the province. Many scientific research achievements, including two books, “A Series of Books on the Research of Henan Economic Problems in the 21 century” edited-in-chief by Xu Xing-en, and “ On the Research of the Economic Development Law under the Guidance of Technology ” edited by Yang Cheng-xun, have been drawing great attention from all circles.
The “Henan Economic Forum” run by HUFE plays an important role in serving local economic construction and enlivening the academic atmosphere. The university’s journal, “Economic Survey” has been chosen through public appraisal as the Key Journal of Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences, China’s National Key Economic Journal and is included in the Top One Hundred Journals of Social Sciences of Chinese institutions.

　 Complete facilities: HUFE attaches importance to its surroundings and services in teaching students and has improved the working, living and service conditions for all the faculty and staff members and students. The university has a library with a comprehensive book collection and several computer-reading rooms. In addition, the university also has a frequency modulation transmitter for foreign language teaching, language labs, multi-media classrooms, a closed circuit television teaching system, a campus computer network, and a high standard rubberized track.

　 On campus, student apartments are in picturesque arrangement, together with a lake and pleasant groves of trees. The beautiful campus won HUFE an honorary title, “Garden-like Unit of Zhengzhou City” Prominent establishment of civilization: Knowing clearly that theory arms people, while civilization shapes people, the university was the leader in teaching a course on Deng Xiao-ping’s Theory and strengthens the campus community by offering a variety of recreation and sports activities. HUFE has been awarded many honorary titles including the following: “Civilized Unit of Henan Province”, “Advanced Unit of Ideological and Political Education of Henan Province”, “Model of Civilized Institutions of Henan Province ” and “Advanced Party Committee of the Institutions of Higher Learning of Henan Province ”.

1.Kind Attention
　 HUFE’s every development embodies the kind attention of the leaders of government at all levels and the support of all circles of society. Leaders of the country and the national Party Committee, leaders of the provincial Party Committee and the provincial government and leaders of the governmental educational department have been to the university many times to inspect and guide the work, which ensures the university’s healthy and sound progress.
2. Specialty development
　 HUFE’s university level education has a solid foundation. The university has developed its feature majors, finance and economics, by optimizing the specialty structures, perfecting the specialty plans and taking advantage of the educational resources. At present, HUFE has 31 university-level and college–level specialties covering multiple courses of study: namely, economics, management, liberal arts, law, engineering and art. HUFE deepens education reforms by operating on the credit system, supplying tutors and offering both majors and minors. As a result of its education reforms, HUFE has been awarded 14 national or provincial prizes of educational achievements, and 15 of the courses have been chosen through public appraisal as provincial excellent courses.
　 HUFE’s postgraduate education programs have been moderately developed and have shown a good degree of advancement. In 1993, HUFE was authorized to award master’s degrees. At present, the university has 13 master’s degree and MBA programs, one of which is a national first grade specialty. The university’s adult education programs and professional education programs have developed quickly. Based on the market demand, HUFE’s adult education optimizes its structures and gives prominence to its own features. Presently, the adult education college has about 4,500 students. After passing the ISO international quality authentication firstly in the Henan provincial educational system, HUFE’s professional business college currently has about 5,000 full-time students on campus.
　HUFE’s echelon of faculty member is becoming perfected. In order to meet the needs of the building and developing of different branches of learning, the university has built 15 faculty teams composed of teachers who have made special contributions to the country, are granted special funding by the government, are outstanding provincial experts, or are excellent young and middle aged core teachers, which provides the assurance of talented people for each specialty’s building and development.
3. Scientific Research Work
　 Intent on aiding the development of social economy, and on serving the orientation of developing its specialties, HUFE’s scientific research work strengthens its association with Henan’s economic and social development, and with the university ’s specialty development. The university directs all its scientific force to tackle key problems of important projects in order to get great achievements.
Impelled by key scientific projects, the university tries hard to train and develop a high-level research team.
　 HUFE’s scientific research work is at a higher level. Since its establishment, the university has undertaken 188 scientific research projects at or above the provincial or ministerial level, and has published almost 4,000 articles and 469 monographs and teaching materials. In addition, the university has been awarded 132 prizes at or above the level of province or ministry for its excellent scientific achievements, and has been chosen by higher authorities through public appraisal as an advanced unit of scientific research work.
　 The Influence of the “Henan Economic Forum” has increased day by day. Since its establishment in 1994, it has been held successfully on a large scale 7 times.
Several hundreds of famous scholars and enterprisers both at home and abroad, and governmental officials have taken part in the forum, including the distinguished economists Yu Guang-yuan, Wei Xing-hua and Li Jing-wen, which has played an active role in serving the construction of the local economy and helping the academic atmosphere to flourish.

It has been chosen through public appraisal as one of “the Top One Hundred Journals of Social Sciences of Chinese Institutions”, “China’s National Key Economic Journal”, “Key Journal of Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences” and the “First-grade Journal of Henan Province”.
4.university Facilities
　 HUFE is constantly raising money to improve the university’s conditions, enlarge the campus area, keep the teaching facilities up-to-date, add to the book collection of its library, install about 50 multi-media classrooms and more than 10 laboratories and establish a campus computer network system, a campus educational TV system and a radio teaching system. HUFE’s academic exchange center, comprehensive building, sports gymnasium and field, student apartments, hospital and kindergarten are all in a novel and unique building style, and they all are completely functional. The campus layout is fully planned, with campus buildings interspersed with a lake and pleasant groves of trees.
5. Foreign Exchanges
　 The university pays great attention to foreign exchanges. Having established friendly relations with foreign universities and cultural and educational institutions in Japan, Korea, the United States, England, France, Russia and Australia, HUFE carries out exchange visits, cultural and educational intercourse and student exchanges with them. Authorized by both the Education Department of Henan Province and London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Examination Board, the university established the LCCI Registered Center of Henan, in order to introduce foreign high-quality educational resources into China and to train high-level administrative personnel in cooperation with universities in foreign countries, including the United States and Britain.
6.Campus Culture
　 HUFE has a variety of recreation and sports activities and is full of cultural atmosphere. It has 38 student leagues and 20 student publications. The class for raising the National Flag on campus is praised by the media as the “The first Class” in the Central Plains of China. The yearly student “Cultural Festival”, “Sports Festival ” and “Art Festival” are running better and better. About 10 literature and art organizations, including the aged theatre, the student theatre and calligraphy and photography societies, have won many prizes in national competitions.
7. Party Development
　 HUFE insists on the leadership of the university President who abides by the leadership of the Communist Party Committee. HUFE aims to strengthen the party development, ideological and political education, civilization development, democratic administration, and works of the Communist Youth League and student union. Paying attention to ideological and political education, HUFE carries out the “Soul Project”, putting emphasis on the study of Deng Xiao-ping’s Theory and the Three Represents Theory, the “Basic Project”, putting social morality in a higher position and the “Beauty Project”, beautifying the campus. All those three projects have formed a new phase of the ideological and political education works in teaching qualified students. The above works have been awarded many prizes and honorary titles from the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the national Education Ministry, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government.
