The Labor and Human Resources Department, Henan College of Finance and Economics was founded in 1989, the third of its kind ever set up in China¡¯s colleges and universities and the only one in Henan Province.
¡¡ The Department now has 23 staff members. 9 of its faculty are professors or associate professors, 2 of them are provincial-leveled experts, and 6 have either obtained or been studying for a doctorate degree. Over 70% of all its teachers have got a master¡¯s degree. Besides, the Department has retained 6 experts or scholars within or without Henan to work as honored or part-time professors.
¡¡The Department has developed a multi-leveled structure for graduate, undergraduate and adult education. It is now the only qualified department in Henan to admit graduate students for a master¡¯s degree in labor economics. Programs set up for the undergraduates include the Human Resources Management, and the Labor and Social Security. Currently there are about 600 students studying as undergraduates. Adult education Program is conducted by correspondence, and students can either engage in a three-year program or a four-year program major in Human Resources Management. Since 2003, the Department has been set as the training center to prepare Henan¡¯s corporate human resources managers for a nationally standardized authentification test. Now the Department is responsible for the pre-test training of all in Henan that are applying for nationally standardized authentification in titles like human resources administrator, assistant administrator or managing personnel.
¡¡Ever since its establishment, the Labor and Human Resources Department has strictly maintained the socialist orientation in teaching and fully implemented the Communist Party¡¯s educational principles under the leadership of the College Party Committee and Administration. Focusing on cultivating students¡¯
innovational spirit and practical abilities, the Department has worked hard on the comprehensive promotion and development of students¡¯ quality in morality and ethics, knowledge and learning, professional know-how, physiological and mental health. A favorable atmosphere for learning has been developed as a result of strictly standardized management, a good combination of teaching and scientific research, and constantly rising teaching and research level. The Department has developed a working style of ¡°Keeping United, Acting Vigorously, Staying Practical and Innovational.¡± Up till now, a total of 1000 undergraduates and 500 students for adult education through correspondence have graduated from the
Department.
¡¡Led by Professor Hou Xiaohong, the Department has made great academic accomplishments. The faculty have published a score of books and over 200 theses, and completed more 30 projects, of which, over 20 are classified the provincial level or above. Of the awards received, 15 are of the provincial or ministry
level, and 50 are of the prefecture level.
¡¡Thanks to a careful teaching style and standardized management, students in the Labor and Human Resources Department have formed a good sense for competition and worked hard to have a comprehensive development ethically, intellectually, and physiologically. In recent years, its graduate student admission proportion has maintained by 15%, marking a regular yearly promotion. All the students take an active part in academic research, and have won two second- prizes and three third prizes at the ¡°National Challenge Cup¡± for college students¡¯ after-school academic work. In the same event organized for college students in Henan, our students won two first-prizes, three second-prizes and two prizes for encouragement. Our young volunteers for assisting the handicapped has been set and publicized as a good example by the Provincial Committee of the Youth League.
¡¡ Every year, graduates of the Department are in a short supply, 75% can find a job for the first interview. The Department has, for many times, won the titles of the advanced party branch, the red-flag youth league branch and the civilized unit of Henan College of Finance and Economics, the advanced unit for fighting ¡°SARS¡±and for conducting examinations.
